Institute Acquires a State-of-the-art Confocal Scanning Laser Microscop

The Institute has just acquired a state-of-the-art Confocal Scanning Laser Microscope: A Leica Spectral Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy System TCS SP5
This instrument – in combination with fluorescent cytostains or biomarkers – will permit us to identify, localize, and quantify target microorganisms and nucleic acids in environmental microbial biofilms and aggregates at very high spatial resolution (< 1 micrometer) and with various physiological or phylogenetic resolution. It forms a critical experimental tool in the environmental microbiology and biotechnology activities of the institute.  The acquisition was supported, in large part, by a 1.5 mill DKK grant from the Forskningstyrelsen for Teknologi og Produktion (FTP)
