Inaugural Lecture

Nanna B. Hartmann's Inaugural Lecture

On Thursday, 1st May 2025, Professor Nanna B. Hartmann will give her inaugural lecture "Navigating the Plasticene – through the whys, the whats, and the hows" as Professor at DTU Sustain.

The Plasticene – a term inspired by the overwhelming presence of plastics – refers to a proposed geological epoch defined by the lasting imprint of plastic on our planet. But how did we reach this point?

What are the consequences for ecosystems – and for us as humans?
And most importantly: how can we change course?

In her inaugural lecture, Professor Nanna B. Hartmann will guide us through plastic’s journey across time: from their origins in the past century to the pressing challenges we face today – and into a future that calls for innovation and responsibility. Through personal reflections, societal insight, scientific findings, and a global perspective, she will explore how plastics
have shaped - and continue to shape - our world. And who knows, there might be a sprinkle of music and pop culture.

DTU Sustain invites everyone to this lecture and the reception afterwards.
