I denne video præsenterer senior researcher Teis Nørregaard Mikkelsen ny forskning, der bliver udført på DTU Miljø, om planter og deres udledning af drivhusgasser.
It’s a fact that the vegetation over the world helps mitigating the enhanced greenhouse effect by in cooperating carbon in plants and the soil they are growing in. This is done by absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. However, recent research shows that plants emit the potent greenhouse gasses methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) and the indirect greenhouse gas carbon monoxide (CO) when they are exposed to solar light. This talk indicate that it is processes that are more or less universal, and preliminary upscaling of the plant generated N2O emission indicate that this newly discovered source equals 7-24% of the N2O natural terrestrial source strength accounted for so far.
