Arnaud Jéglot was nominated for his master thesis on how to establish optimal cultivation methods for high ammonia-tolerant methanogenic consortia. As ammonia inhibition is the main cause of under-performance of biogas plants his work constitutes an important step towards more efficient biogas production.
Jie Deng was nominated for her master thesis on how biological post-treatment of wastewater can be used to secure micro pollutants removal based on a new operational strategy of moving bed biofilm reactors (MBBR) technology. Her work demonstrates how micro pollutants which constitute contaminants of emerging concern in municipal wastewater may efficiently be degraded.
